"It's about the journey, not the destination."
When I was a kid, I wanted to be like Mike. Everyone wanted to be like Mike. And when MJ retired...we were lucky because we still had Kobe.
Kobe's #8 and #24 are getting retired today and deservingly so. Hate him or love him, you can't help but be inspired by his true love for the game and mamba-like style of play. They say the NBA has gotten soft and Kobe may be the last of the hard-knocks kind.
More importantly, he had a passion for the game that was palpable through your television set. His work ethic was second to none. You couldn't compete with a guy of his nature. Not physically. Not mentally. It's guys like MJ and Kobe who were my idols growing up...maybe because I also loved the game of basketball but also because they taught me what hard work truly meant. There's nothing that fuels a fire in me like watching replays of MJ or Kobe.
Like Magic said...there will never be another Kobe. Thanks for the memories, Mamba.
